Over one million homeless and abandoned
animals are euthanized in high kill shelters each year.
Will you help us out?
According to the ASPCA, approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter US animal shelters nationwide every year. Of those, 3.3 million are dogs and 3.2 million are cats. Each year approximately 1.5 million shelter animals are euthanized (670,000 dogs and 860,000 cats) at no fault of their own.
The good news is that these numbers are declining every year. In 2011 2.6 million cats and dogs were senselessly euthanized. This decline is due to more people deciding to adopt and a steady increase in the number of no-kill shelters and rescues being established nationwide. Twenty-three percent of dogs and thirty-one percent of cats are now obtained by pet owners from a rescue or shelter.
There is still a lot of work to be done. Rescues like Small Paws and Playful Claws rely on funding through donations from friends, family, and fundraising within the community. The funds are used for the cost of vet care, rehabilitation, and food until an adopter is found. Even the smallest donation adds up to something great. Make your donation today!
